My largest client at Mills James was The Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center. Over the course of three years, I had the pleasure and privilege of working with numerous groups within the Medical Center, including the employee communications team, The Ross Heart Hospital marketing team and The James Cancer Hospital marketing staff.
I handled nearly $1 million in business for the Medical Center, and spearheaded the process for Mills James to become a certified purchasing partner.
Among the various projects on which I worked:
Solove Rolls-Royce Auction
Richard J. Solove, in addition to being a major benefactor for the The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, spent more than 35 years assembling the world’s only complete collection of pre-WWI Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts.
In 2007, Mr. Solove sold his collection of Rolls-Royce automobiles at auction, with the nearly $14 million in proceeds benefiting The James.
Working with The James marketing staff, Mills James documented the collection and interviewed Mr. Solove. The James’ media relations staff used the video elements to promote the auction in advance of the sale. I took still photographs of the vehicles during the video shoot that appear on the James web site in the page’s navigation and content areas.
The Mills James team also attended the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, documenting the auction of the Solove Collection. Again, I provided still photography services during the shoot. One of my photos was published in the Columbus Dispatch, in the article reporting on the sale.
Following the auction, Mills James produced a recap video used by The James’ development staff during events honoring Mr. Solove and by the hospital’s media relations staff to further promote the auction and donation to the hospital.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, Stefanie Spielman turned her misfortune into a crusade to raise money for breast cancer research and treatment.
Stefanie’s Champions honors the care givers of cancer patients. The annual fundraising luncheon, held at the Columbus Convention Center, draws nearly 1,000 attendees.
Mills James produced all of the Champion profile videos shown during the luncheon and handled all of the technical aspects of staging and producing the event. I was privileged to serve as the account manager for the production in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Cancer Survivor’s Day
As treatments advance, the number of cancer survivors increases. The James celebrates survivors each year with Cancer Survivor’s Day. Now part of the Pelotonia opening ceremonies, Cancer Survivor Day was previously staged at Ohio State University and The Columbus Zoo.
Mills James handled audio and lighting support for the concerts and provided a video crew to capture survivor testimonials at the Columbus Zoo in 2007 and 2008.
LiveStrong Day Celebration
2008 marked the inaugural celebration of LiveStrong Day, a cancer awareness initiative by the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Ohio State Medical Center and The James were selected to host a community celebration marking the occasion. The outdoor event included speeches by several James dignitaries and an appearance and motivational speech by Armstrong.
Mills James handled the staging and live event production for LiveStrong Day. In addion to serving as the account manager for the event, I announced Lance to stage as the public address announcer (did I mention that my job had occasional perks?).
Employee Orientation Video
Working with the Medical Center’s employee communications team, I served as account manager for a human resource/staff training video that Mills James produced for OSU in 2008.
Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee and a variety of Medical Center leaders appear on-camera in the video, which is shown to new hires (the Medical Center has a staff of more than 14,000) during their official new employee orientation sessions.
Global Diabetes Summit
In 2007, Ohio State University Medical Center hosted the Global Diabetes Summit. More than 650 doctors and researchers from 14 different countries and five continents converged on Columbus for the two-day symposium.
Mills James provided audiovisual and staging support for the keynote, plenary and breakout sessions for the conference and, working with OSU Medical Center’s media relations agency, provided A/V support for the event’s media center.
